When it comes to viral video content, there’s no surefire way to make happen, to ensure your content seen by million. Even so, the videos that made it big in 2013 are ones you can watch, takes notes on, and better understand what it takes to make a shareable crowd pleaser. This week on the Magnet Minute, Amy shares her Top 3 Favorite Viral Videos of 2013 and explains why she thinks each one was successful.
1. Props to Marina Shifrin, who adventurously and creatively let her employer know she was quitting her day job. After arriving to the office first, at her usual 4:30am call time, she posted cameras all over her office and danced her way out the door to Kanye West’s “Gone.” The video reached more than 17 million views since its September 28th publication.
2. Next up is another music video, and this one went mega-viral. The now infamous “The Fox Song” by Ylvis has surpassed 305 million views since its September 5th release date. Parodies by individuals, groups, and brands have been a huge factor in this video’s continual popularity, including a hilarious SNL skit featuring actress Kerry Washington.
3. Finally, Amy’s third choice is a video that proved a big success for a big brand. Volvo released its “The epic Split” video featuring actor and stuntman Jean Claude Van Damme doing the splits between two moving Volvo semi trucks. You have to see it to believe it and still, a lot of people don’t. Once again, parodies have inflated the views, as more than 65 million people have already seen the video.
